How to back up and restore your hosting

While we run periodic server-level backups, we recommend also creating your own backups before making significant changes (updates, theme changes, etc.).

Creating a manual backup

  1. Log in to Virtualmin with your Extra Administrator account.
  2. Go to Backup and Restore → Backup Virtual Server.
  3. Select your domain in the "Servers to backup" list.
  4. Choose the destination: Download to save it directly to your computer, or a local/remote path if that option is enabled for you.
  5. Choose which items to include (website files, databases, email, DNS configuration, etc.).
  6. Click Backup Now.

Restoring a backup

  1. Go to Backup and Restore → Restore Virtual Server.
  2. Upload the backup file (.tar.gz) or specify its location.
  3. Select which items you want to restore.
  4. Click Restore Now.

Important: restoring a backup can overwrite your domain's current content. If you're unsure, open a support ticket before restoring — we can help you or take a precautionary backup first.
