How to back up and restore your hosting
3 ViewsWhile we run periodic server-level backups, we recommend also creating your own backups before making significant changes (updates, theme changes, etc.).
Creating a manual backup
- Log in to Virtualmin with your Extra Administrator account.
- Go to Backup and Restore → Backup Virtual Server.
- Select your domain in the "Servers to backup" list.
- Choose the destination: Download to save it directly to your computer, or a local/remote path if that option is enabled for you.
- Choose which items to include (website files, databases, email, DNS configuration, etc.).
- Click Backup Now.
Restoring a backup
- Go to Backup and Restore → Restore Virtual Server.
- Upload the backup file (.tar.gz) or specify its location.
- Select which items you want to restore.
- Click Restore Now.
Important: restoring a backup can overwrite your domain's current content. If you're unsure, open a support ticket before restoring — we can help you or take a precautionary backup first.
